Help with GFS and Other School Projects
Do you need to write a GFS on New York City or Martin Luther King Jr. (or any other theme) in English? Do you need to present a book report? We'll be glad to help you find appropriate books and other materials on your chosen subject. Just ask a librarian!
English Abitur Boot Camp
Our special shelf in the Young Adult section offers primary and secondary literature on the "Sternchenthemen" for the English Abitur.
A special gem is the book on CD "Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter" (read by Keven Kenerly, unabridged).
For most books there are two copies - one as a reference for use in the library, and one to be checked out and used at home.
If you have special questions about the English Abitur, please ask a librarian for help.
The Friends of the American Library honor the best students in English in each of the Karlsruhe schools offering an Abitur.

Study in the United States
Overview
To study at a US college or university, you usually must have
- Abitur or Fachhochschulreife for an undergraduate program
- Vordiplom or six Fachsemesters (Bachelor) for a master's or doctoral program
- Diplom, Magister, or Master for a doctoral program.
To apply to a U.S. college or university, you must
- research schools and programs and contact admissions offices for application materials (start at least 18 months before you plan to attend)
- take required tests (TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT, or LSAT) (these can be taken only at specific times each year; start at least a year ahead of time)
- submit applications (forms, essays, transcripts, and letters of recommendation) (deadlines are usually between November and January)
- acquire financial aid or prove your means of financing your study
- attain the appropriate visa (once you have been admitted)
N.B.: if you apply through an organization like Fulbright, there are shortcuts to this process!
